Rest in Peace

My mom has been friends with Miss Sheila (and her late mom Miss Peggy) for years, going back to the days when they used to Duckpin bowl together at Hillendale. I remember hanging out at the bowling alley with the ladies and Sheila's daughter Katie and I would play together while the ladies bowled and had a good time. Miss Sheila was always so nice and fun and had a smile on her face. As a young girl I loved going to Miss Sheila to get my hair done at the Fallston Visage location. After my haircut I would always ask her to french braid my hair - she made it look so pretty and I was always impressed with how fast she was! Miss Sheila did my hair for most of my high school dances as well and always felt beautiful in her salon chair! She also gave me my first spiral perm--woo hoo! I was SO excited to get that done. I remember I saved babysitting money until I had the $98 or so dollars it cost. I was flabbergasted that after gratuity my hairstyle cost over $100! That was the biggest purchase I made as a teenager :-) Years after, I would joke with Miss Sheila - and anyone who complimented my curly hair - that I had the world's best hairdresser and that she worked magic. Normal perms tend to grow out, but after that spiral perm Sheila gave me, my hair grew in curly and never stopped being curly. I always said she permed my brain and I loved it. As an adult I moved away to New Jersey for many years, but my mom still visted Miss Sheila regularly for hair appointments and "salon therapy" :-)  One year for Mom's birthday I called Miss Sheila from NJ and asked how much mom's average hairstyling cost (a perm, cut, blowdry). I then paid over the phone for a year's worth of hairstyles (plus gratuity) for mom by Miss Sheila. Mom always said that was one of the best presents she received because she got to chit chat with her dear friend and feel beautiful at the same time.  Miss Sheila was the sweetest lady, an awesome stylist and a fantastic friend to my mom. She will be surely missed by many people. My thoughts and condolences go out to her family, especially Katie and Meaghan.
