Faye M. (Gleason) Grasham, of Street, Maryland, formerly of White Plains, New York, died on Friday, March 22, 2013 surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was the wife of C. Edward Grasham with whom she had shared 65 years of marriage.
Faye is also survived by a son, Michael Grasham of Street; a daughter, Leslie Jacobs of Millersville and husband, Robert; a daughter, Valerie Wasserman of Street and husband, Donald; three grandchildren, Erin Grasham, Amanda Velivlis and Jordan Wasserman; 6 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Paul Grasham in 1994.
Faye graduated from White Plains High School in White Plains, NY in 1948. She continued her education, graduating from Virginia Intermont College in 1950. Returning to college in her 40's, Faye earned her masters degree cum laude from Towson University in 1980.
Faye was a lifelong educator, teaching at Slate Ridge Elementary, Dublin Elementary, Highland Elementary, retiring from North Harford Elementary in 1992.
Faye was an avid volunteer and lived to serve her community. She was a member of the following organizations, Ladies Auxiliary John S. Murphy VFW, the Save the Bay Foundation, National Historic Preservation Society, Friends of the Harford County Public Library, Harford Community College Literacy Program, International Sorority of Women Educators, Project Committee for Maryland State Board of Education. She was also the chairman of the board for Citizens Care Center in Havre De Grace, MD and a charter member and past vice president of Delta Kappa Gamma.
In retirement, Faye started her own antique business, Pine Hill Antiques. She loved traveling, going to Italy, Mexico, France and even scuba diving in Jamaica at age 70. She enjoyed horseback riding, painting and spending time with her great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Emory United Methodist Church, 911 Cherry Hill Rd. Street, MD 21154. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to the Emory Church Scholarship Fund at P.O. Box 94, Street, MD 21154.
