Graveside Conversation

Remember the bright red pillow I made in home ec that looked like lips? You thought it was a hoot! I still have it. As a homemaker and homeowner, I have you, my mom and dad, and Heloise to thank for all the hints and techniques you shared. Remember the French Dinner we had at your house? Hors d'oeuvre, salade, entree, dessert (days-air). Cooking together was so much fun! We were only missing an aperitif. ;) Remember when you had to tend to a sick student and I led the class in reviewing our homework? That was fun, too, and I have been a teacher many times since. Remember when you said we couldn't fake a book report because you'd read all the books? Every now and then I'll be reading a good book hope you read it, too. Remember Pam McDonald? I married her brother, Pat. He's a good man, good father, and wonderful husband. We've lived in Texas most of our married life, and have reared our two sons here. I wish we had visited with you on our trips to Maryland. Y'all would like each other. You inspired me to be pleased God made me a strong-willed woman, kind, dedicated to learning, teaching and serving. I never knew your mother was from Germany, or that you served in the military, or how many years you spent on the mission field. What an impressive resume' you had! I was a teenager, and not wise enough to be impressed by adults. My loss. Even so, you were a wonderful influence on all of us privileged to be your students. Rest in peace, m'amie. I'm sure you were welcomed with, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant." ~ Rachel Dauber McDonald
