JOCELYN DEHART JAMES BUTLER (lovingly known as Mama Dew) of Delta, PA passed peacefully in her home on Monday, March 11, 2013. Jocelyn, a native of Old Bay Farm in Havre de Grace, MD, was a daughter of the late E. Roy & Mary (Smith) James and wife of the late George Butler.
She is predeceased by her uncle, General Julian C. Smith; a brother, Senator William S. James; three sisters Mary Rolfe Cronin, Ann Meade and Cynthia Riddick.
Jocelyn is survived by her children- Rebecca Donohue, Julia Boulden Butler-Fischer, John Butler (all of Delta), William Butler of Painted Post, NY and Harriotte Paige Bredberg of Lawrenceville, GA. She is also survived by beloved grandchildren (Sarah, Kristin, Lauren, Aaron, Rachel, Christina, Daniel, Ryan, Katie and Lindsey) and great-grandchildren (Joshua, Luke, Kylie and Bane).
Jocelyn was born on November 8, 1925 and was a graduate of Washington College in Chestertown, MD where she obtained a Liberal Arts Degree. Retiring in 1981, Jocelyn had taught school in Prince George’s and Harford Counties. In retirement, she continued to teach for the Harford County GED Program in addition to being a Home and Hospital teacher till 2011.
Jocelyn will be remembered for her wisdom, wit and creativity. She was devoted to her family and was a true patriot.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday March 16, 2013 at 11:00am at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, PA with Reverend James A. Baldwin of Woodbine Believers Assembly officiating.
Interment will be at Salem Cemetery in Delta, PA.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday March 15th from 5:00 – 8:00pm and on Saturday March 16th from 10 – 11 a.m.
Pallbearers will be John Butler, William Butler, Daniel Butler, Ryan Butler, Tony Bredberg & Aaron Weaver. Honorary pallbearers will be Henry Cronin, John Cronin, Ron Donohue and Butch Bowker.
