Army ball

I have a lifetime of stories of my father. Picking one to tell is very difficult for me. He was such a funny loving father and husband. But my favorite time with him is when he took me to the army birthday ball as he was a special guest as a wounded warrior. I was so excited to dress up and spend that evening with him. When we first got in we got in line to buy drinks and the bartender told us how much the drinks were I joked and said man where is the military discount when u need it. (Go figure There really was no discount!) He laughed his unforgettable laugh took our drinks and took me in his arm and as smoothly as possible and in true Burkins fashion said look baby girl no one is evening paying attention just start grabbing the free full bottles of wine and champagne and bring them back to our table... I said daddy no their gonna notice then I'm gonna get kicked out of here. He smiled and said just grab it stop complaining and come on. I shut up and I listened. Before the night was over we stopped sneaking the wine and just brought our glasses to all the tables... People looked but never really said or had the nerve to say anything and dad looks up at me and says "how'd u like our military discount?" I'm gonna miss his fun crazy sense of humor forever. Love u always dad.
